The TapX machine will soon feature ANCA’s upgraded secondary dresser, which includes Acoustic Emissions Monitoring (AEMS), and compatibility with ANCA’s innovative Motor Temperature Control (MTC) technologies. This can be ordered now as a special order with any new TapX.
In tap production, wheel dressing is of paramount importance. Almost all wheels used in tap production are formed. For example:
- Fluting: Almost all taps include flutes, which range from very straight and shallow to complex shapes. They can vary from having minimal impact on tap performance to being critical for chip evacuation with large helix-shaped flutes.
- Thread: We have single-rib wheels, which are versatile, and multi-rib wheels, which are very specific. Both types are formed specifically for a thread type.
- Crest: Sometimes this wheel is independent, but often the crest form follows the threading form on the same wheel.
Due to the nature of tap manufacturing, dressable wheels are almost always used, and these wheel forms must be consistently maintained throughout production. This is where the new dresser and its set of features really excel.
Given the importance of dressing on the TapX, we have completely overhauled this process, surpassing anything currently available on the market.
This new secondary dresser includes AEMS which enables more automated dressing cycles by monitoring the acoustic emission of the dressing operation. This feature introduces intelligence into the dressing cycle, automatically detecting when the wheel is properly dressed and eliminating unnecessary dressing passes. This offers reduced dressing time and extended wheel life.
Acoustic emission probing can also detect and correct axial errors of the wheel and dresser roll, further optimising the dressing cycle.
Additionally, we are offering the
benefits of our MTC. MTC can completely control and maintain the temperature of the grinding spindle, and this technology can be utilised on all spindles, including those used for dressing.
By using MTC, we can control the thermal settings for both the grinding wheel spindle and the dressing spindle, eliminating errors typically introduced by thermal growth. This is significant when considering that we are essentially rubbing these two spindles together to dress critical forms into our grinding wheels.
